For those who don't know us, we are Kerri and RJ.  We are high-school sweethearts who grew up and got married and love to go on adventures together.  Our adventures take us many places and include many different modes of travel.  We like off-roading in our Jeep Wrangler as well as RJ's Triumph Tiger 800.  We enjoy cruising on the paved roads on RJ's Honda Magna and Kerri's Kawasaki Ninja 250.  Most recently, we traded in our practical Subaru for a little, two-seater...a Mazda MX5 (Miata), which is the ultimate road trip vehicle! 

This summer, we are fulfilling RJ's dream of driving cross country in a convertible.  We will be traveling from Pennsylvania to San Fransisco, down Pacific Coast Highway to San Diego, and then turning around to head home.  We have some parts of the trip planned out, but other parts are wide open for spontaneous adventuring.  RJ is looking forward to his third trip to the Air Force Museum in Dayton, and Kerri is looking forward to dipping her toes in the Pacific Ocean for the first time!  This will be the farthest west either of us has ever traveled.  We are also looking forward to visiting friends we haven't seen in a long time along the way.  

Every adventure needs a great soundtrack, and luckily, we both love a wide variety of music.  Many of our adventures lead to concerts, and even when they don't, we usually have a pretty extensive playlist going to keep us moving along the way.  Our favorite band is O.A.R., and while they won't be part of our road trip this summer, we were lucky enough to see them at Red Rocks two Septembers ago (AMAZING!).  Some of our other favorites include Dispatch, Breaking Benjamin, Andrew McMahon, Lake Street Dive...and the two that we are going to get to see on this road trip - Frank Turner (in Cleveland) and the Avett Brothers (at RED ROCKS!!!).  

We can't wait to share our adventure with you!  Will we hit any pot-holes (literally or figuratively) along the way?  Can we stick to our budget?  Are we going to love the car more or learn to hate it after thousands of miles and hours of driving?  Will RJ let Kerri drive?  You'll have to follow along with us to find out!

"Only the wild ones Are the ones you can never catch Stars are up now no place to go, but everywhere" -"Only the Wild Ones" by Dispatch This was our second trip to Colorado as a couple and RJ's third trip to Colorado overall.  Neither of us had ever driven in before.  We were surprised after crossing the Colorado border to learn that the first two hours or so of the drive was very flat and empty with even less civilization than Kansas!  Lucky we've been keeping our gas tank from dropping below half very often, because it was quite a drive into Colorado before we found a place to stop and fuel up and use the bathrooms.  We caught our first glimpse of the mountains about 30-40 miles outside of Denver, and then the drive started getting more interesting and we started feeling like the end of our long day of driving was in sight. Days 3 and 4: Driving Through the "Fly Over States"

"They've never drove through Indiana, Met the men who plowed that earth, Planted that seed, busted his ass for you and me, Or caught a harvest moon in Kansas, They'd understand why God made those fly over states." -"Fly Over States" by Jason Aldean Days Three and Four of our cross-country adventure involved a LOT of driving!  We crossed the border of five new states during these two days on the road and drove over 1,200 miles!  Kerri actually got to drive some of those miles, too, and RJ was a very good passenger.  Covering just over 600 miles on Day Three got us to Kansas City, MO for a night at the La Quinta Blue Springs , which was affordable, super comfortable, and provided a fantastic breakfast!  Not to mention, it was an extremely dog-friendly hotel, and there were a LOT of people traveling with their furry friends, which made us a little wistful for our own four-legged best friend who is at home with Bob, Michele, Cody, and Ryle

Day 19 - 21 - Turning Around and Heading "East Bound!" via Palm Springs and Tuscon

"We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there. I'm east bound - just watch Ole' Bandit run!" After Santa Monica, we decided it was time to turn back east.  We wanted to keep our trip to four weeks or less, which left us a little over a week to get home.  This part of the trip was much less planned than the first half.  We knew we wanted to get to Tucson to visit Joe and Amber, but we didn't have a plan on how we wanted to get there or how we wanted to get home from there.  For now, we decided Palm Springs seemed like a worthwhile half-way point, and we weren't disappointed!  Palm Springs was much quieter than Santa Monica, felt much safer, the accommodations were MUCH nicer, and to be honest...we had both been waiting for our chance to sing "East Bound and Down!" from Smokey and the Bandit.  We had to keep skipping it on our playlist until now!  We decided to walk to dinner despite the extreme heat.
